What's New?

In this newsletter, we would like to touch on our objectives and provide an update on our initiatives.

Our objectives:

  • To contribute to the improvement of the health services of public medical institutions in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
  • To collaborate with other Guyanese Associations in contributing to the aspirations of the country and to maintain the ties of friendship among Guyanese in Ontario.
  • To promote and participate in community activities in the Region of Peel and collaborate with other associations contributing to further the objectives set out.
  • To provide financial assistance to Guyanese in the Region of Peel and the Province of Ontario.
  • To contribute financially to medical institutions in the Region of Peel and the Province of Ontario.

Updates on Our 2021 Initiatives:

  • We celebrated International women's month by recognizing women of Guyanese heritage in the community, such as politician, educator, and author Shirley Chisholm, Canadian female track and field athlete Natasha "Courage" Bacchus who represented Canada at the Deaflympics, MPP of Brampton Sara Singh, and Deputy Chief Peel Regional Police Ingrid Berkeley.
  • The Virtual Open House took place with support and endorsement from the Guyana Consulate. There, we introduced the new executives board members, and solicited feedback from our community and attendees on initiatives and priorities moving forward in 2022.
  • We partnered with The Alzheimer Society Peel to further raise awareness and hosted a "MOVE" event with all proceeds donated to The Alzheimer Society Peel

Community Updates

  • October 6: Minister of Foreign and International Cooperation represented His Excellency, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali at the commemorative ceremony for the 45th anniversary of the Cubana Air Disaster. (Guyanese Consulate)
  • October 18: Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo met H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana.(Guyanese Consulate)
  • A contract was signed for 25 core homes in Sophia by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) for G$111.8m. Each lot holds five houses and there are five lots. (Stabroek News)

The Alzheimer Society Peel is a nationwide charity that supports all people with dementia and Alzheimer's along with their caregivers and families. They offer programs and support services, fundraise for research, advocate for policy change, and increase public awareness.
